Nizamabad : Nearly 500 bonded labourers, including women and children, were rescued from brick kiln units in Telangana’s Nizamabad District during a major joint operation conducted on May 19, 2026.
The rescue operation was carried out by the Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), police, labour, and revenue officials at Degaon and Maghidi villages in Armoor Mandal following directions issued by Justice P. Sam Koshy, Executive Chairman of TSLSA.
According to TSLSA, the action was initiated after migrant labourers from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu complained of forced labour, non-payment of wages, physical abuse, child labour, and inhuman living conditions at the brick kilns.
Officials said around 73 families were rescued and shifted to a temporary shelter in Armoor, where food and assistance were provided. Authorities also found children, pregnant women, and infants at the worksite.
One alleged brick kiln owner, Kiran Reddy, was reportedly apprehended during the operation. Revenue officials are now issuing Bonded Labour Release Certificates, while legal action against those responsible is underway.
