Bilaspur – The High Court of Chhattisgarh at Bilaspur has issued a notification declaring its summer vacation from May 18, 2026, to June 12, 2026, with regular functioning set to resume on June 15, 2026.
During this period, the Court has clarified that no regular civil, criminal, or writ matters will be taken up. However, urgent matters will continue to be addressed by designated Vacation Judges to ensure that pressing legal issues are not delayed.
As per the notification, Vacation Benches will sit from 10:30 AM onwards and may extend beyond regular hours if required. Division Bench matters will be taken up first, followed by Single Bench matters depending on availability of time. The Registry will remain functional on working days between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, excluding weekends and holidays.
The Court has laid down specific filing procedures for urgent hearings. Fresh cases must be accompanied by an application seeking urgent listing. Similarly, pending matters, except bail applications, will require an urgent hearing application to be listed during the vacation. Bail applications, both fresh and pending, will be listed without the need for separate urgency applications.
Additionally, cases not reached during a particular sitting will be listed before the next available Vacation Bench. Filings submitted up to 4:30 PM on a working day prior to the sitting date will be considered for listing, with cause lists to be published a day in advance.
The notification also specifies that Vacation Benches will function on select dates, including May 19, 21, 26, and 28, as well as June 2, 4, 9, and 11, 2026.
The circular, issued under the authority of the Chief Justice, aims to balance the Court’s annual recess with the need to address urgent judicial matters efficiently.
